Accuracy disclaimer
The compass, spirit level, sun position, and moon position tools depend on your device's hardware sensors — magnetometer, accelerometer, gyroscope, and GPS — as well as standard astronomical algorithms. Actual accuracy varies with:
- The quality and calibration state of your device's sensors.
- Environmental interference such as nearby magnets, metal surfaces, speakers, or electronic equipment.
- GPS signal quality and satellite availability at your location.
- The inherent limitations of consumer-grade inertial sensors.
Do not rely solely on these tools for safety-critical navigation. Always carry a physical compass and appropriate maps when navigating in remote or hazardous areas. These tools are provided for informational, recreational, and everyday use — they are not certified survey or navigation equipment.
Intellectual property
All code, design, and written content on this site is © Get Online Compass. The astronomical algorithms used by the sun and moon position tools are derived from public-domain sources, including Jean Meeus's Astronomical Algorithms and the NOAA Solar Calculations spreadsheet. The magnetic declination model is based on the World Magnetic Model maintained by NOAA and the British Geological Survey.
You may link to any page on this site freely. Reproducing substantial portions of the site's content or code without written permission is not permitted.
Third-party services
Get Online Compass integrates several third-party services whose own terms apply when you use the site:
- Google Analytics — used for aggregate usage statistics. Subject to Google's Terms of Service.
- Google AdSense — used to display advertisements. Subject to Google's Terms of Service.
- Google Fonts — used to load typefaces. Subject to Google's Terms of Service.
- Geocoding API — the Sun Position and Moon Position tools optionally send your GPS coordinates to a third-party geocoding service to display a city name. That service's own terms govern its use of that data.
We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of any third-party service. Links to external sites are provided for convenience only and do not imply endorsement.
Disclaimer of warranties
The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely accurate across all devices, browsers, and operating systems.
Limitation of liability
